Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Tyler Valenti

Pioneers Roll Past Potsdam on Senior Day

Alfred State controlled every aspect of the match from the opening whistle, hitting .204 as a team while holding SUNY Potsdam to a -.140 hitting percentage. The Pioneers piled up 37 kills, seven service aces, six total blocks, and 47 digs in a dominant team effort that saw them complete the sweep in just over an hour.

The Pioneer attack featured a balanced offensive performance with multiple players making significant contributions. Alayna Tomlinson and Gloria Stem shared team-high honors with nine kills apiece, while Tomlinson completed a double-double with 10 digs. Stem added six digs and a service ace in another strong all-around effort.

Alfred State's middle hitters were especially effective at the net. Erin Gregoire recorded six kills while hitting .333 and added three blocks, while Brianny Rodriguez was nearly unstoppable offensively, posting five kills on a .400 hitting percentage while contributing a pair of solo blocks. Rebecca Jackson added four kills while hitting .429 in limited action.

The offense once again flowed through setter Isabel Carew, who orchestrated the attack with 29 assists while adding two kills, a service ace, and eight digs. Ava Wickes anchored the back row with a match-high 15 digs and three service aces, helping keep the Potsdam offense out of rhythm all afternoon.

The opening set featured several early lead changes before the Pioneers seized control midway through the frame. Alfred State used a decisive run fueled by kills from Tomlinson, Stem, and Gregoire to build separation and never looked back, closing out a convincing 25-15 victory.

The second set was all Pioneers. Alfred State overwhelmed Potsdam from the start, combining aggressive serving with a suffocating defensive effort to race to a 25-12 win. The Bears managed just three kills in the set while the Pioneers continued to find success from every spot on the floor.

Looking to complete the sweep, Alfred State carried that momentum into the third set. After Potsdam briefly kept pace early, the Pioneers strung together another scoring run behind the serving of Wickes and key kills from Rodriguez, Gregoire, and Stem. Tomlinson helped seal the match as Alfred State closed out the set 25-16 and secured its second straight conference sweep.

With the victory, the Pioneers continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of SUNYAC play, showcasing the balanced attack, strong defense, and relentless energy that have made them one of the conference's toughest teams to face.

The Pioneers will be back in action on November 4 when they host Oswego State in Alfred, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
