Alfred, NY- The Alfred State women's basketball team dropped the final game before thanksgiving break to Houghton 71-51. Pioneers fall to 0-6 on the season.

Sarah Somers led the way with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Taylor Searle added 11 points, while Taylor Benjamin grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds to go along with her nine points.

Searle got the game started for the Pioneers with a layup. A few possessions later, she added a free throw before Somers put in a layup to take a 5-3 lead. The Highlanders would then score six points to end the quarter with a 9-6 lead.

Houghton opened the second quarter with a 9-2 run, before a Searle three would put that run on hold. Houghton knocked down two threes to force a Taylor Button timeout. Following the timeout Anna Merry put in a three and Somers followed with a layup. The Highlanders finished the first half with a 35-23 lead.

The Highlanders out scored the Pioneers 20-7 in the third to extend their lead and take control of the game. They would go on to win.
