Pioneers Finish: Clinch Home Playoff Match

The Alfred State Men's Soccer team won tonight's match against Hilbert 4-2. The Pioneer team went into the first half winning 3-2 before knocking in a goal in the final minute to seal the victory. Alfred State clinched the three seed in the AMCC, and a home conference playoff match with the win. 

The game started with a bang for Alfred State, as Jackson Powers (Syracuse, NY) scored a goal 46 seconds into the match. His fourth goal of the season is the fastest Alfred State has scored this season. Hilbert came back with two goals of their own. Jason Vullo and Chris Smith went back-to-back giving the Hawks the lead 2-1. In the 28 minute, Riley Warren-Nichols (Fayetteville, NY) scored from an Ali Mata-Ruiz (Westbury, NY) assist, tying the game back up at two-a-piece. Brogan Cotter (Wayland, NY) broke the tie with his second goal of the season in the 41 minute. Going into the half, the Pioneers had the momentum and the lead. 

The 89 minute saw a Gavin Rice (Greece, NY) goal, his sixth of the season was the finishing touch to the Pioneers locking up the three seed in the conference. The Pioneers are set to host a conference playoff match for the first time in the program's short NCAA history. The match will take place at noon at Pioneer Stadium on Saturday, October 29. Alfred State will face the Hilbert Hawks again on Saturday, making it back-to-back matches.
