The Alfred State women's soccer team put together a solid team effort in a 3-1 victory over Carlow University on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers improve to 5-2-1 on the year while the Celtics fall to 3-3.

Haley Russell (Keshequa) got the Lady Pioneers on the board in the 12th minute when she picked up a loose ball and found the back of the net. She made it 2-0 in the 34th minute when she headed a long pass from Anna Rath (Medina) into the corner of the net.

Keri Teufel (Sachem East) made it 3-0 in the 61st minute when her long shot from beyond the goal box tipped off the keepers hand and into the net. Haley Vosburg (Fillmore) picked up the assist.

Kristina Wallace cut the Alfred State lead to 3-1 just under three minutes later when she slipped one into the back of the net.

Alfred State outshot Carlow 25 to 8. Allison Danielak (Brokport) made five saves for the victory in net.

Alfred State is back in action tomorrow as they host Penn State Beaver at 1 p.m.
