Lady Pioneers Sweep USCAA Opener

The Alfred State volleyball team opened up play at the USCAA National Championships with a 25-23, 25-19 victory over #9 Carlow University. The #3 seeded Lady Pioneers are now 23-4 on the year and continue pool play at 2:30 p.m. vs. Tennessee Temple.

The Lady Pioneers started off slowly in set one but rallied from a 19-14 deficit to claim the set 25-23. In set two, Alfred State jumped out to a 16-7 before Carlow rallied to cut the lead to 16-13. The Lady Pioneers finished strong to claim the victory.

Grace Hall (Ellicottville) and Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) were key to the victory. Hall recorded a team high six kills and two aces while Padley registered four kills, four service aces, and four digs. Lera Braun (Waterloo) passed out 17 asssists, Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) had five digs, and Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) added three kills and three blocks.
