Alfred State Lacrosse
Peed was introduced as the second Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Alfred State in June of 2025. He is intimately familiar with starting a new lacrosse program, having launched the program at Maine Maritime prior to assuming the head coaching role at the Academy.
Maine Maritime Lacrosse
Steve Peed spent six seasons on the sidelines of the program he created as the AD in 2014, serving as the head coach for four of his six seasons and as an assistant in 2023 and 2025.
As the Mariners head coach, Peed recruited two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookies of the Year, produced the Academy’s first NAC Player of the Year in Women’s Lacrosse, first IWLCA Senior All-Star, eight All-NAC First Team selections, five All-NAC Second Team selections, two NAC Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year, 29 NAC All-Academic selections, four IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selections and four CSC Academic Honor Roll selections. His 2024 team established program records for goals (230), assists (122) and points (352). The 2025 Mariners set program records for single-season wins, NAC victories, home record (7-1) and road record (5-1), while shattering the previous goals-against average benchmark of 9.57, set in 2017, with 7.00 GAA.
The 2025 Mariners saw Hazel Stoddard repeat as the Player of the Year and become the program’s first four-time All-NAC First Team selection. Stoddard became the program’s second IWLCA North/South All-Star selection. The Mariners leadership earned NAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors, while producing three All-NAC First team selections and the NAC Co-Senior Scholar Athlete of the year.
Peed took over the program in the fall of 2019, guiding the Mariners through the 2020-pandemic-shortened-season. The team practiced in the fall of 2021, but did not compete as the Academy’s training ship departed at the start of April.
Peed’s first full season was the 2022 campaign, in which the Mariners were picked to finish sixth in the NAC. The team defied expectations, winning a then-program-best eight games, and advancing to the NAC championship game. The Mariners picked up the program’s first postseason win before falling in the conference finals. Hazel Stoddard was named the NAC Rookie of the Year that season.

The 2021-2022 academic year marked the first time Maine Maritime had ever won four conference titles in a single academic year, a feat that was repeated in 2022-2023. The 2022-2023 academic year culminated with the first ever NCAA postseason contest in Castine when men's lacrosse was selected to host a first-round game. The 2023-2024 Mariners rolled up three more championships, marking only the fourth time in the department's history that the Mariners had won more than two championships in one year. Three of those four years were on Peed's watch. When he stepped down from the AD position, the Mariners’ athletes had posted their 17
th consecutive semester with term and cumulative grade point averages north of 3.0, and the 16
th of 17 semesters with over half of the department’s athletes on the Dean’s List.
Prior to the Academy
Peed came to Castine from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., where he served as the Associate Director of Athletics. He managed all aspects of athletic communications for the Diplomats’ 28 intercollegiate athletic teams. He was also charged with compliance for the department, which includes an NCAA Division I wrestling program. Additionally, Peed coordinated NCAA championship bids and the athletics Hall of Fame at F&M as well. At F&M, Peed publicized two NCAA Division III National Championship teams when women's lacrosse took the titles in 2007 and 2009. The lacrosse teams were just a few of the teams and individuals Peed publicized on the NCAA’s final weekend of competition. He oversaw the reconstruction of the department’s athletics record books, moving them into a digital format and initiated the College’s video-streaming efforts. His focus on technology and web services put F&M on the cutting edge in the world of athletic communications.
Peed spent five years (2001-2006) as the Director of Sports Information at McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College). He assumed the post in August following his graduation from the College. He had served one year as a student-worker prior to being hired. In his time in Westminster, he established a complete electronic database of athletic records and shepherded in the era of Internet broadcasting, taking WTTR AM 1470’s radio feed to the web. As a student-athlete at Western Maryland, Peed studied Political Science and Communications and was a member of four Centennial Conference Championship teams (three in football, one in wrestling).
Peed earned a Master of Science in Sport Management at Drexel University in 2010. His thesis proved a positive statistical correlation between athletic expenditure and athletic success in NCAA Division III and was presented at the 2011 College Sports Research Institute (CSRI) convention at the University of North Carolina. It was one of four of his entries presented at the conference.
It's Personal
A native of West Chester, Pa., Peed remains a loyal and unapologetic Eagles and Phillies fan. Peed, his wife Courtney, and their pitbull pup Fiona are always up for a day on the trails or on the water.
