Margaret Laine

Coach Margaret Laine is in her 3rd season piloting the Alfred State women’s wrestling program. Arriving on campus in April of 2023 as the inaugural head coach, she built the program from the ground up and has already coached 36 athletes in Alfred State’s mat room.

Under Laine’s leadership, the team amassed a 4-2 regional dual record, 80 program pins, 2 academic All-Americans, and placed three wrestlers in the regional championship during the 2024-2025 season. In the same season, her program sent its 117lber to the National Championship in Iowa, as the first ever national qualifier in Alfred State women’s wrestling history. Simultaneously, Laine cultivated the culture of the wrestling program, with a focus on academic success, healthy athletes, and a family feel.

Laine has experience at all levels of wrestling. She’s worked with both male and female wrestlers, with a focus on developing athletes into young adults and preparing them for college athletics. Laine is a graduate of the University of Washington, where she was a three-time NCWA national qualifier, and was the captain of the Husky Wrestling Club.
