Morrisville, NY- The Alfred State Volleyball team finished the Morrisville Classic with a strong 3-1 (25-11, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23) victory over Alfred University. Earlier in the day, the Pioneers fell to SUNY Morrisville, 0-3 (16-25, 23-25, 20-25). With today's split, Alfred State moves to 3-2 on the season.
Game 2: 3-1 (25-11, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23)
The Pioneers came out strong against the Saxons, taking the opening set 25-11 before carrying that momentum into a 25-19 second-set victory. Alfred responded with a 25-20 win in the third set, but Alfred State came through after battling through a close fourth set to secure a 25-23 victory to close out the match.

Alayna Tomlinson led the Pioneers offense with 15 kills, while
Gloria Stem added 12 kills on 28 attacks.
Brianny Rodriguez had an impressive offensive performance, recording seven kills on 10 attacks without an error. Izzy Carew helped lead the Alfred State offense with 36 assists, while
Ava Wickes held it down on defense with 23 digs.
Kendall Tompkins added five aces, while
Caley Larsen notched two aces.

Earlier in the day, Alfred State battled SUNY Morrisville in a three-set match. The Pioneers continued to compete throughout the match, falling 25-16, 25-23, and 25-20.

Tomlinson led the Pioneers with 12 kills and six aces, while Stem added eight kills.
Alli Hillyard recorded five kills on 10 attacks, while Carew directed the offense as she tallied 29 assists and 8 digs. Wickes continued to make an impact defensively with 14 digs.

Alfred State will return to action on Wednesday September 9
th  when the Pioneers take on Keuka College at 6 PM.
