Alfred, NY- The Alfred State softball team completed the midweek sweep over the Hilbert Hawks, as they won game one 11-2 and game two 7-2. The Pioneers move to 13-16 on the season and 8-7 in conference play.
Game 1: 11-2
Nicole Youngberg led the way as she went 1-1 with a double and four RBIs.
Hailey Lacko added a double.
Marissa Ordway picked up the win in the circle after pitching a complete 5.0 inning game. She scattered two runs over four hits with six strikeouts.
Pioneers struck first with one run in their first at-bat.
Emma Edwards got walked to leadoff the inning, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a walk,
Abbie Millard tallied a single down the left field line to load the bases. Then an RBI sacrifice fly from Youngberg gave ASC the 1-0 lead.
In the second, Alfred State added three more runs to their lead.
Ariel Maine got walked to leadoff. Two batters later, Lacko and Edwards got walked to load the bases. After an out, Millard picked up an RBI on a walk. Youngberg followed with two RBI double for the 4-0 lead.
The Pioneers broke the game open in the third as they scored six runs. With one out, Maine singled up the middle,
Hannah Keane got hit by a pitch to follow. Then an RBI single from Lacko made it a 5-0 game. Edwards would get walked to load the bases, before the Pioneers scored on a walk and a wild pitch. ASC made it an 8-0 game behind an RBI sacrifice fly from Youngberg. The Pioneers would score two more runs on an error for the 10-0 lead.
The Pios added an insurance run in the fourth to push the lead to 11-0. The Hawks got on the broad in the fifth and scored two runs but could not get any close as the Pioneers won 11-2.
Game 2: 7-2
Trinity Scott lead the way as she went 2-4 with two RBIs.
Hannah Keane went 1-3 with two RBIs.
Sydney Howard picked up the win as she pitched 7.0 innings only allowing one earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
The Hawks got on the broad first with a run in their opening at-bat. The Pioneers answered with one in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. With one out,
Trinity Scott singled down the left field line and stole second a few pitches later. Alfred State would score on an error to tie the game.
The Pioneers would take the lead in the second as they scored two runs.
Jordyn Colvin got hit by a pitch to leadoff, and stole second. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, a two RBI single from Scott gave ASC the 3-1 lead.
The Pios added to their lead in the third as they scored two runs. Youngberg notched a single to leadoff the inning. She would steal second before scoring on a RBI single from
Liana Dion. Dion would steal second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Kate Gemza for the 5-1 lead.
ASC continued to add to their lead after scoring two runs in the fifth. Dion led off with a single before Colvin got walked. Two batters later, Keane notched a two RBI single through the left side for the 7-1 lead.
The Pioneers would go on to win the game 7-2. Alfred State will return to action on Friday May 1
st for a game against Pitt-Bradford at 4:30 pm.
