Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State Softball team split the first day of play at the Gene Cusic Classic. The Pioneers grabbed their first win of the 2026 season against the La Roche Redhawks in game one, 11-10.

Sydney Howard grabbed the win in the circle for the Pios, recording two strikeouts.
Trinity Scott and
Jordyn Colvin both went 2-3 at the plate with Colvin notching a double and two RBI.
Liana Dion went 2-4 with a triple and four RBI while
Emma Edwards went 2-5 with a triple and two RBI.

ASC grabbed four runs immediately in the first inning as Dion tripled scoring
Madigan Harris, Scott and Edwards. She would then plate herself on a wild pitch, putting the Pioneers up 4-1. The second inning was a struggle for the Pios as the Redhawks recorded seven runs. Howard was put in as a relief for
Sophia Petrie which allowed Alfred State to get out of the inning. The Pioneers answered in the third, slating three runs to tie the game.
Ariel Maine singled to score Harris, followed by Edwards triple to plate Maine and Colvin.

La Roche took the lead in the fourth inning, grabbing one run and another in the sixth. The Pios responded with a Colvin single through the right side that scored Dion and
Nicole Youngberg. Alfred State would close out the game in the seventh as bases became loaded and Dion was walked to score one, 11-10.

Game 2:

Marissa Ordway threw six full innings in the Pioneers second game of the day. Ordway would record four strikeouts. Maine went 3-3 at the plate, recording her first collegiate homerun.
Hailey Lacko went 1-1 recording a double while Scott and Youngberg both going 1-3.

Bethany would score five runs in the beginning four innings to take a solid lead. The Pios managed to tack on two of their own runs as Scott singled through the left side scoring Colvin. Lacko would be plated on an error to set the score 2-5. The Bisons would tally six more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Maine would rocket a ball over the fence in the sixth that was ASCs final run of the game as Bethany took the win 11-3.

The Pioneers hit the field again tomorrow to take on Drew University at 9 am and SUNY Cobleskill at 11 am.
