Meadville, PA- The Alfred State women's lacrosse team secured a hard-fought victory on the road over Allegheny College, 8-7. The Pioneers advance to 4-1 on the season.
Karlee Hargather led the way with a hat trick, adding one assist, four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and five draw controls.
Katerina Strong contributed one goal and two assists while securing three draw controls.
Kari Annunziato added two goals of her own. In net,
Maeve Runyon turned aside six of the 13 shots she faced.
Alfred State opened the scoring six minutes into the contest when Hargather capitalized on a man-up opportunity. The Gators responded just two minutes later, tying the game at 1–1 with 6:07 remaining in the first quarter.
Alaina Gernatt then finished a smooth transition for the Pioneers, netting a man-down goal to regain a 2–1 advantage. However, Allegheny closed the quarter on a two-goal run to take a 3–2 lead into the second.
The Pioneers' offense erupted after the break, scoring four unanswered goals in a five-minute span. Hargather, Strong, Annunziato, and
Brooke Walsh each found the back of the net, giving Alfred State its largest lead of the game at 6–3 with 9:51 remaining in the quarter. Both teams exchanged goals over the next two minutes, with Annunziato restoring the two-goal cushion. Despite Alfred State's surge, the Gators carried momentum into halftime, scoring twice in the final seven minutes to set up an exciting second half with the Pioneers holding a narrow 7–6 lead.
Neither team found the back of the net in the third quarter, but Hargather broke the stalemate early in the fourth, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal with 9:08 remaining to give Alfred State the lead. The Pioneer defense stood tall down the stretch, preserving the advantage and securing an 8–7 victory over the Gators.
