Alfred, NY – The Alfred State women's basketball team notched their second consecutive win as they rolled pass Pitt-Bradford 85-59 at home. Alfred improves to 13-8 on the season, 8-4 in the AMCC.
Emeline Barton delivered a superb performance for the Pioneers, recording a career high double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Jordan Niles followed with 16 points and four steals. Mallory Sprissler also hit double figures with 13 points and six rebounds.
Kicking off the opening minutes, the Pioneers went on a 13-2 run. Taylor Benjamin, Barton, and Niles all contributed key highlights during this period. As the action continued, the Pioneers padded out the lead, with Kisten Merritt drilling a triple following a couple Alana Wilson free throws to close the opening frame 36-14.
Alfred's hot hand continued into the second period with Merritt finding another triple within the first minute. With everyone getting involved, including first-year Finnley Harwood, the Pioneers closed the first half of play with a comfortable 52-22 cushion.
Behind Barton and Niles, Alfred continued their dominance for the entire second half of play. The Pioneers finished the game with 25 points off turnovers, 54 in the paint, and 34 off the bench.
Alfred will face off against the Mounties of Mount Aloysius in Cresson, PA next. Tipoff is on Saturday, February 7th at 1pm.
