Hamburg, NY – The Alfred State women's basketball team earned another complete team victory on the road Wednesday night, defeating the Hilbert Hawks 74–60. The win was highlighted by
Taylor Benjamin's 1,000th career point, a milestone performance in a dominant outing for the Pioneers.
Benjamin led Alfred State with 21 points while adding four assists, guiding the offense throughout the night.
Emeline Barton followed with a well-rounded effort of 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds, while
Jenna George chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
Alfred State set the tone early behind strong outside shooting and second-chance opportunities, forcing turnovers and controlling the tempo to take a 19–15 lead after the first quarter. The momentum carried into the second, as
Jordan Niles, George, and Barton capitalized in transition, helping the Pioneers extend their advantage to 34–24 at the half.
Hilbert made a push coming out of the break, but Alfred State responded with steady interior scoring and defensive pressure. Barton controlled the paint while George sparked the offense, allowing the Pioneers to close the third quarter on a run and hold a 53–43 lead heading into the final period.
The Pios are now 10-7 overall, 5-3 in conference play. Alfred State will host Pitt-Greensburg this weekend with a set tip-off time for 1 pm!
