Henry Leahy Brace Leads ASC to Victory

Pittsburgh, PA – The Alfred State men's soccer team opened AMCC conference play with a strong 2-0 road win over the Carlow Celtics on Saturday night. With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 4-2-3 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

Henry Leahy powered the offense with both goals, bringing his season tally to six. Patrick Mucha added an assist, his second of the year. Alexander Preston made four saves, notching his second shutout of the season.

ASC started on the front foot, applying early pressure to the Celtics' back line. Both sides had three corner kicks in the first half, while Carlow held a slight edge in free kicks, 6-5. The breakthrough came when Mucha delivered a pinpoint corner that found H.Leahy, who rose above the defense and headed home the opening goal. Carlow pushed for an equalizer before halftime, but the Pioneer defense stood firm to carry a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Alfred State controlled the tempo by keeping possession in the Celtics' half. The decisive insurance goal came in the 88th minute when a Carlow defender was called for a deliberate handball inside the penalty area. H. Leahy calmly converted the penalty kick to seal the 2-0 victory.

The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, September 30, when they travel to face the Pitt-Bradford Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
