Cresson, PA- The Alfred State Softball team competed hard against the Mount Aloysius Mounties in today's doubleheader but, the Pios fierceness wasn't enough as they lost game one 5-2 and game two 2-1.
Â
In game one,
Abby Beidel took a loss at the mound and
Hailee Smith also saw the last inning of the game in attempt to relieve Beidel.
Madigan Harris went 2-2 at the plate and
Nicole Youngberg went 1-4 with a double.
Â
The Pioneers struggled to find their bats in game one until the fourth inning. The Mounties had already found themselves on the scoreboard with four runs.
Abigail Marinelli scored unearned to put the Pios on the board. Aloysius would grab one more run at the bottom of the fifth, 5-1. ASC only managed to snag one more run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Mounties took home game one, 5-2.
Â
In game two,
Marissa Ordway started in circle for the Pioneers and took home the loss. Youngberg smacked the ball around in game two going 2-3 at the plate.
Amy Campbell went 1-3 with the lone run of the game. Four Pioneers cranked doubles in game two but it simply wasn't enough to get them the win.
Â
After six scoreless innings, ASC were the first to find themselves on the board as Campbell smacked a single to which
Trinity Scott laid down a SAC bunt to move her. Youngberg would then notch a double, scoring Campbell, 1-0. To no eval, the Mounties would grab one run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, 1-1.
Â
Aloysius was able to snag the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, taking home the final win after ASC battled two tough games.
Â
The Pioneers will be back on the field, weather permitting, this Tuesday at Oswego.
