Thurmond Achieves 1000th Career Assist, Pios Conclude Their Season Against The Redhawks

Pittsburgh, PA- The Alfred State Pioneers concluded their season on the road today as they took a tough loss against the La Roche RedHawks. With the conclusion of their season, the Pioneers finished with a overall record of 14-13 and 2-6 in conference foes.

Gabriella Thurmond tallied her 1000th career assist in today's match, as she recorded 28 assists in the three-set game, putting her 22 over her 1000! Alayna Tomlinson delivered 16 kills, three aces and a block for the Pios while Gloria Stem added seven of her own kills and 17 digs.

ASC put the first point on the board before La Roche racked up seven straight points off Alfred errors. It took a majority of the set for the Pios to make a small comeback, but the Redhawks maintained that lead to the end, 25-20.

The Pioneers found a lead early in the second set as Stem and Carmen Crowley laid down kills, 9-7. Holding that momentum and lead, Crowley and Tomlinson continued to be a strong offensive force for the Pios. The Redhawks ultimately took a few strong leads to which ASC could not overcome as they fell short again, 25-22.

Desperate to not let the season end, Alfred regained their energy and composure, tacking on two points, quickly followed by a six-point rally. That rally was led by three Pioneers as Tomlinson notched three service aces and a kill with Stem and Alli Hillyard contributing a kill of their own. ASC held a promising lead until the Tomlinson final kill and the 24th point. La Roche took control and executed seven points to take the final set win 26-24.

This loss ultimately closes out the Pioneers 2025 season and refrains them from entering the AMCC tournament.
