Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Volleyball team grabbed their second conference win on senior day against the Carlow Celtics, 3-1 (25-23,25-20,25-14,25-19). This bumps their overall record to 14-11 and 2-4 in conference play.

ASC was led today by
Alayna Tomlinson with 19 dominant kills, 19 digs and four aces.
Gloria Stem notched 11 kills, 13 digs and five aces. Senior,
Gabriella Thurmond earned 45 assists and delivered four aces.

The first set of the day sided with the Celtics as the Pioneers lost a bit of their momentum late in the set, falling to a 25-23 score. Tomlinson quickly retaliated in the beginning of the second set with a striking kill. Carlow regained their energy and took the lead for a majority of the early set until the Pios went on a four-point rally, dropping their lead to two points, 14-12.
Erin Gregoire delivered a prominent kill to tie the set 18-18. The Pios locked in, shutting the second set out with a six-point rally where Tomlinson,
Carmen Crowley and
Alli Hillyard notched forceful kills, 25-20.

Keeping their spirits and energy high in the third set, an eight-point rally would give the Pioneers the lead they were looking for. Stem delivered four service aces and a kill while Tomlinson added two of her own kills in that rally, 14-4. The Celtics struggled to make a comeback which allowed ASC to close the set out swiftly, 25-14. The fourth set saw five points tacked onto the scoreboard immediately for the Pios, as Tomlinson set down two kills, Thurmond adding two aces and a Carlow error, 5-0. The Pioneers kept a safe lead throughout the set, only allowing the Celtics to get two points within reach. With Tomlinson nailing aces and kills late in the set and
Caitlyn Gilman delivering a powerful kill, Alfred was able to knock down Carlow 25-19 in the final set.

The Pios will take on Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday in Orvis with a start time of 7 pm, as they look to battle for another conference win.
