Romero’s First Goal of the Season Helps Pioneers Earn 1-1 Draw with La Roche

Alfred, NY – The Alfred State men's soccer team battled back to secure a 1-1 draw with the visiting La Roche Redhawks. The Pioneers' record now stands at 5-2-4.

Alexander Romero scored his first goal of the season, finishing with two shots on the night. Ryan Masi assisted on the equalizer, bringing his season point total to seven. Goalkeeper Alexander Preston made one save on two shots faced.

The match opened with back-and-forth action as both sides looked to establish control. La Roche capitalized on a turnover in the Alfred State half, with their striker firing a shot off the top left post and in to give the Redhawks a 1-0 advantage. The Pioneers responded with six first-half shots but were unable to break through before halftime.

Alfred State came out of the break determined to find the equalizer, and they did just that in the 51st minute. Masi delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, where Romero rose up to head it home and level the score at 1-1.

The Pioneers pressed forward in search of a winner, earning eight free kicks and one corner in the second half, but couldn't find the decisive goal. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Alfred State will return to action on Saturday, October 11th, when they travel to face Mount Aloysius. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
