Washington, DC- The Alfred State Men's Soccer team picked up their second win of the season to cap off opening weekend. The Pioneers took the 15-0 win over Gallaudet.
The Pios came out hot netting seven goals in the opening period. Henry Leahy opened the scoring with a goal off a pass from Jean Baptiste Kagde. A few minutes later in the third minute, Chuck Domm notched his first goal of the season by way of a header off a free kick from Ali Mata-Ruiz. Nuri Sarbudak would make it a first half brace with back-to-back goals. The first goal came in the 10th minute off a pass from Mata-Ruiz, the next goal came in the 15th minute off a Jackson Powers pass. Travis Scandalis netted a penalty goal to give ASC the 5-0 lead. Later in the 37th minute, Matthew Zwirblis netted his first goal of the season off the assist of Farhan Abdi. Then in the final minutes of the half, TJ Brackett notched a penalty goal to give the Pioneers the 7-0 halftime lead.
Will Leahy opened the second half with a goal within the first five minutes. Scandalis would follow with a goal in the 56th minute. Later in the half, Jack Emo tallied back-to-back goals. The first came off a penalty kick, the second came less than minute later for the 11-0 lead. Then in the 69th minute Zwirblis scored his second goal of the day for the 12-0 lead. Eric Spring scored the 13th goal of the day, a few minutes after being subbed in the 76th minute. Later in the 80th minute, Lucas Jorgenson netted a header goal, and Ryan Masi followed with his second goal of the season.
The Pioneers will be back on the road to take on Allegheny College on Wednesday September 4th at 4:30 pm.
