Cresson, PA- The Alfred State volleyball team clinched the top seed in this years AMCC tournament, as they took down Mt. Aloysius in the regular season finale 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21). The Pioneers finished the season with a 19-6 overall record and a 7-1 record in conference play.
Alayna Tomlinson led the way with 19 kills, while Racquel Gerstenberger added 17 kills and 17 digs. Nayomie Ferrer tallied 38 assists as well.
In the first set, the Pios went on a late run to take the set. With the score 18-18, Gerstenberger notched a kill, and Erin Gregoire followed with a block. On the next play, Tomlinson tallied a kill of her own for the 21-18 lead. After errors from both teams, ASC would put in three straight kills to take the set.
In the second set, Alfred State was able to jump out to an 18-13 lead and held of the Mounties offense to take a 2-0 set lead. Then in a closely contested third set, Gerstenberger put in three kills along with a Sarina Soto ace to take a 21-16 lead. From there, the Pioneers would get kills from Caitlyn Gilman and Gabriella Thurmond to make in 24-21 set. A Mounties error would give the Pioneers the 3-0 sweep win.
