Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Men's soccer team closed out their season in an excruciatingly tough match tonight against the #2 seed, Penn-State Behrend.
 
Both teams were geared up for tonight's match-up, wanting that championship title and bid to the NCAA tournament. These teams faced off on October 15^th, which resulted in a tie, 0-0. That being said, everyone in attendance knew this game would be intense and exciting. The Pioneers and Lions battled for 90 minutes, doing everything in their power to find the back of the net first, both teams' defenses working relentlessly.
 
Going into OT, the Pios were eager to find the net quick, but the Lions defense couldn't be beaten. After the first 10 minutes of OT, no goals were scored. As the anticipation built up, each team fighting to score the first goal, the second half of OT also finished 0-0. Alfred State and Penn-State Behrend would then go into a penalty shootout for the championship win.
 
The result of the shootout was not what the Pios were hoping for, as they made four out of the 5 penalty shots and the Lions made all five of theirs, concluding the game.
 
The Pioneers will look to get an at-large bid, Monday at 1:30 pm during the NCAA D3 Selection Show.
