Pioneers Drop Two Against The Lakers

Oswego, NY- The Alfred State Softball team dropped two to the Oswego Lakers in today's Thursday double-header, 9-0 and 7-5. With these two non-conference losses, the Pios record sits at 8-10 overall, 3-1 in conference.

Game 1:

The Pioneers first game saw Sydney Howard and Hannah Powers on the mound with Howard recording two strikeouts but taking the loss.

At the plate, ASC struggled to find their bats throughout the entire five inning game. Hannah Keane was the lone Pio who notched a double to left center. The Lakers consistently tacked on runs, plating six in the first inning, one in the second and then closing it out by grabbing two more, 9-0.

Game 2:

Sophia Petrie started in the circle in game two, Marissa Ordway coming in as a relief. Petrie recorded six strikeouts during her impressive four innings.

Alfred State's bats came alive in game two as they found their momentum early. Jordyn Colvin went 2-2 with two RBI, a double and a triple. Emma Edwards went 2-3 with an RBI and Brianna Buscaglia went 1-1.

The Pioneers scored first, plating two runs in the first inning. Abbie Millard would score on a wild pitch and Colvin drew a walk with bases loaded to score Nicole Youngberg. They tacked on another run in the second from a Millard sac fly to left field to score Buscaglia, 3-0. Oswego found their way onto the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring two. The Pios slated two more runs in the third to put them up by three, 5-2. Colvin doubled to right field which scored one, and Edwards singled to shortstop which scored Colvin. In the last three innings, ASC made some errors and allowed a few hits that the Lakers capitalized on, as they took the win in six innings, 7-5.

The Pioneers are set to host Senior Day this Sunday against Mount Aloysius, first pitch set for noon.
