Pios Split With Lions To Close Out The Season

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Softball team ended their season with a split against the Penn State Behrend Lions, taking home a big game two win, 9-8. The Pioneers ended their 2025 season with a 9-19 overall record, 5-11 in conference play.

Game 2 (9-8)
Marissa Ordway saw the start on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings before Smith had to come in as a relief. Ordway would then take home the big win for the Pios. Youngberg would lead game two going 2-4 with one RBI. Abigail Marinelli would pitch in going 1-4 with 3 crucial RBIs.
 
The Lions hit the board first, scoring three runs in the top of the first. ASC would snag their own run in the bottom of the inning off an Youngberg RBI. Behrend would notch another run in fourth inning, setting the score at 4-1.
 
The bottom of the fourth inning, the Pioneers found their bats as they slated eight runs. Marinelli cranked a three-run triple to tie the game, 4-4 and Alfred didn't let up there. Liana Dion would single to score Marinelli. After bases became loaded, Trinity Scott got walked, scoring another. Caley Larsen would then smack a line drive single to score two followed by another run as they Pios took a big lead 9-4.
The Lions managed to create a close game as they found a way to notch four runs but the ASC held them and took home the win, 9-8.
 
Game 1 (6-1)
In the circle, Abby Beidel pitched a solid 4.2 innings but, suffered the loss, while Hailee Smith threw for 2.1. At the plate, Madigan Harris went 2-3 while Nicole Youngberg went 1-3 with an RBI.
 
The Pioneers were the ones to strike first as Amy Campbell led off with a single through the left side, and went to second on a ground out. Two batters later, Youngberg put in an RBI single to left field for the 1-0 lead.
 
The Lions would tie the game in the top of the second, before taking the lead later in the fourth. The Pioneers tried to fight back but fell short in game one 5-1.
