The Alfred State wrestling team competed at the NCAA Mideast Regionals for the first time this weekend. The Pioneers scored four points in the competition.
Ryan Mattison (Brockport) was 2-2 in the heavyweight competition. He started the day with a tough 3-1 overtime loss to Thomas Marretta (College of New Jersey) but rebounded with a pair of victories. He pinned Leon Taryan (Hunter) in 36 seconds and then earned a 12-4 major decision over William McGinley (Ursinus). His tournament came to an end with another tight 4-3 loss to Marretta.
Mattison was one of six Pioneers that competed in the Regionals. Top three finishers in this tournament that featured 18 teams advance to the NCAA Division III Championships.
