The Alfred State field athletes shined as the track & field competed at the University of Rochester Twilight Classic on Friday afternoon.
Anders Presthus (Lansing) led the way for the Pioneers by winning the shot put (12.92 m). He was also was 2nd in the discus (37.72 m.), 2nd in the hammer throw (44.28 m), and 5th in the javelin (40.37 m). Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) won the discus throw and is now 2nd in the school record book with a toss of 49.79 m. His toss is the 7th best in NCAA DIII this season. Bryce Chapman (Geneseo) was 7th in the javelin (34.42 m) while Ryan McFarland (Waverly) was 8th (33.59 m).
The 4x100 relay team of Cassidy McCourt (Buffalo/Emerson), Sophie Gonzalez (Bronx/Kings Park), Logan Thierman (Portville), and Alexis Carrington (Manhattan/NYC iSchool) won in 55.18. Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 6th in the 400 (1:08.46), McCourt was 7th (1:09.00), and Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 8th (1:12.94).
A couple Pioneer athletes will compete at the Cortland Multi this weekend while the rest of the team will be back in action on Monday when the team hosts the Alfred Invitational. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
