Scouting Alfred State:

  • The offense accumulated 533 yards of total offense but a last minute rally fell short as the Pioneers fell 50-46 on the road at Dean last Saturday. The two teams combined for 96 points and 1,068 yards of offense. The teams traded touchdowns throughout the 1st half. Alfred State went into halftime with a slight 27-25 lead. The Bulldogs scored on their first two possessions to take the lead for good. The Pioneers had two chances in the final minutes to take back the lead but the Bulldog defense stopped two drives with interceptions. Dashown Wilson finished the day 14 for 28 for 279 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 217 yards rushing and three touchdowns (34 carries). David Carroll finished with five catches for 107 yards and two scores while Shy'rel Broadwater had three catches for 89 yards and two scores. Jeremiah Nixon led the Pioneer defense with nine total tackles (six solo) and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Hunter Kruger added five solo tackles (six total).
  • David Carroll continued the Alfred State roll of Rookie of the Week honors from the ECFC. Carroll earned the award, the third straight Pioneer to win the award and fourth on the season, after eclipsing 100-yards receiving for the first time in his career. He caught five passes for 107 yards and two scores.
  • Dashown Wilson had a career game as he accounted for all seven touchdowns. He rushed for 217 yards and now leads the team with 645 yards on the year (11 touchdowns) and has passed for 1,267 yards (13 touchdowns).
  • A trio of freshmen wide receivers have stepped up this season. Shy'rel Broadwater and Andrew Thomas both have 20 grabs on the sesaon while Carroll has 17. Broadwater leads the team with 439 yards and seven touchdowns.
  • Maritime had success on the ground last week so leading tackler Paul Portorreal along with Brockton Weist and others will be counted on for big games. Portorreal leads the team with 48 tackles while Weist has a team high eight sacks.
  • Making a big play on special teams or scoring on defense could be the difference in the game.

Scouting Maritime:

  • Maritime picked up its third consecutive win and clinched a spot in the NCAA tournament with a 24-13 victory over Gallaudet last week. The Privateers defense shined again as they held the Bison to just 13 points, while the offense ran for 272 yards. Jack Lynn finished 11-18 with 114 passing yards on the day, while former Pioneer Hezekiah Williamson tacked on 153 rushing yards and two scores. Christian Schiavone also surpassed the 100-yard mark with 19 carries for 104 yards. Christian Judge led all pass catchers with six receptions for 72 yards. Defensively, Justin Snuffer led the way with 11 solo tackles. Liam Bailey and Jabari Corsfield also turned in solid performances with eight and seven tackles, respectively.
  • Joseph Gagliardi is a key weapon for Maritime. He has won ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week four times. Last week he made his lone field goal attempt for 28 yards, as well as going 3-3 on extra point attempts. He also punted twice for a total of 88 yards, while pinning both inside the 20 to help Maritime control the field position battle.
  • Hezekiah Williamson leads the run heavy offene with 600 yards rushing and five scores. The Privateers have rushed for 1,224 total yards on the season and have only passed for 831.
  • Liam Bailey has had a monster season for Maritime. He leads the team with 76 tackles while Justin Snuffer has 61 (49 solo). The Privateer defense has forced only six turnovers in their eight games.
