Offense Can't Get Going vs. LaRoche

Quick intermission.

The Alfred State baseball team could not get the offense going as they fell 2-1 and 5-0 to #18 LaRoche in their final AMCC doubleheader of the season. The Pioneer pitching staff kept the team in the contest but the Redhawks staff held the blue & gold to just seven hits on the day.

In the opener, the Pioneers got on the board in the 2nd inning when Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) scored on an error. The Redhawks tied it up in the 4th connected on a two-out RBI single up the middle. The game remained tied until the 7th. With one out in the bottom half of the inning Jonathan Spina singled up the middle to give LaRoche the victory.

David Zuber (Honeoye Falls Lima) collected two of the Pioneers three hits in the game. Angel Victorino (Inwood/Harvest Collegiate) allowed just three hits and one run in five innings of work but didn't figure in on the decision. He walked three and struck out eight.

Cam Smith earned the victory with a complete game three-hitter. He allowed one unearned run while walking one and striking out six. Spina was the lone player on the LaRoche lineup with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4. There was not an extra base hit in the contest for either team.

In the nightcap, Dylan Urban got LaRoche on the board with a RBI single in the 2nd. Spina followed with a RBI ground out. The game remained 2-0 until the 7th when the Redhawks added three insurance runs. Jay Novawk hit a 2-RBI single to center and Urban followed with a RBI double.

Novak was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while Urban was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Ethan Lewis earned the win with six innings of three-hit work. He didn't walk a batter and struck out three. The trio of Jake Seymour, Jesse Savisky, and Shane Emrich tossed the final three innings allowing just one hit and one walk.

Jack Henby (Hornell) was 2 for 3 while Pingitore was 2 for 4. Garrett Mack (Avon) tossed seven innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out five.

The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Elmira at 3 p.m.
