Alfred State junior wrestler Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) and sophomore swimmer Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week.
Almeter won the 184 lb. weight class at the JCC Open on Sunday. Almeter earned three hard fought victories to claim the title. He defeated Tim Collins (Brockport) 9-7 in the quarterfinals and then downed Bryce Rowe (Brockport) in the semifinals to advance to the finals. In the finals he defeated Jamestown's Cameron Page 9-4 to claim the title. Page is the #2 wrestler in the 184 lb. weight class in the NJCAA. Earlier in the week he split a pair of matches in a tri-match with Brockport and Pitt Bradford. In his victory he earned a 16-0 tech fall over Quentin Ellis from Bradford.
Lewis picked up two individual first place finishes, along with a first place relay finish, while also setting a pool record at the Pioneer Invitational. Lewis won the 1650 free in 20:09.57 and the 500 free in 5:44.39 as the blue & gold raced to a dominating victory. Her time in the 1650 free is a new pool record. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team that won in 2:04.79.
