The cross country team had the weekend off but returns to action this weekend at Houghton.
SUNY Maritime scored on five of their six possessions in the 1st half as they opened up ECFC play with a 49-6 victory over Alfred State.
The Pioneers put together their one scoring drive of the day in the early parts of the 4th quarter. Willerm Greffin (Brooklyn/South Shore-Sport Management) set up the drive with a 57-yard kickoff return. He then recorded a rush of 35 yards that got the Pioneers into the red zone. Three plays later Eli Frantz (Hubert, NC-Construction Management) connected with Jalen Long (Rochester/Bishop Kearney-Sport Management) on a four-yard pass play to get the blue & gold on the board.
Maritime (4-0) gained 601 yards on the day and held the Pioneers to just 83. Austin Parker (Port Byron-Architectural Technology) led the Pioneers defense with 12 tackles (9 solo) and an interception. Brandon Davis (Lansing-Architectural Technology) had nine tackles and John Lauretti (Seaford-Tech Management) finished with eight.
Men's Soccer: 2-5-1
The Pioneers had the week off but return to action this week when they travel to a pair of games at St. John Fisher and SUNY ESF.
Women's Soccer: 5-3
The women's soccer team split a pair of contests this week. They fell 3-1 at Pitt-Bradford but rebounded with a 8-0 victory over Villa Maria.
Julia Yanarella (Wappinger Falls/Roy Ketcham-Forensic Science) scored the lone goal vs. the Panthers while Allison Danielak (Brockport-Drafting/CAD) made six saves in net.
Six different Pioneers scored in the big victory over Villa. Yanarella and Melissa Mineti (Livonia-Nursing) both scored a pair of goals in the victory while Michayla Salatel (Geneseo-Financial Planning) scored a goal and passed out two assists. Leigh Swartzfager (Nunda/Keshequa-Sport Management), Kylie Newman (Waverly- Nursing), and Sarah Finzer (Wayne-Nursing) all scored once. Danielak made a save in the 1st half and passed out an assist in the 2nd half.
The spikers fell in both of their matches this weekend at D'Youville. They were tripped up 3-1 by the hosts and fell 3-0 to Baldwin Wallace.
Versus D'Youville, Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga-Financial Planning) recorded 12 kills and 20 digs to lead the way for the Pioneers. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA-Liberal Arts & Science - Social Sciences) tallied 12 kills and 14 digs, Samantha Tumolo (Manorville/Eastport South Manor-Nursing) passed out 22 assists and Morgan Hungerford (Lyndonville-Architecture) chipped in seven kills and three blocks.
Versus BW, Perkins and Hungerford both had five kills, Tumolo passed out 10 assists, and Valerie Intini (Rochester/Eastridge-Architecture) collected six digs.
Western Equestrian: 3rd at Collegiate Invitational
The Western Equestrian team made its intercollegiate debut at the Collegiate Invitational held at the Empire State Quarter Horse Association's Fall show in Syracuse, NY.
Six teams competed and Alfred State riders Rachel McNeal (Elmira/Waverly- Radiologic Technology ) earned a 3rd place in Open Reining, Kirstin Reynolds (Portville-Diagnostic Medical Sonography) a 3rd in Intermediate Horsemanship and Katelyn Lawson (Savannah/Clyde Savannah-Agricultural Business) completed the day with the win in Beginner Horsemanship. Alfred State finished 3rd in the overall team standings.
