The Alfred State women's soccer team completed the weekend sweep as they defeated Penn State Hazleton 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The victory was the Pioneers seventh straight and improves the team to 10-2-2 on the season.
The Pioneers scored a pair of goals in each half. Maggie Meyer (Red Creek) scored seven minutes to notch her 7th of the season. Angela Martone (Candor) and Abby King (Holland) were credited with the assist. Meyer netted her second of the game just over five minutes last when she dribbled down the left side and fired a low shot past the keeper.
The game remained 2-0 until the 82nd minute when Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) turned and scored her 12th goal of the season after getting a pass from midfield from Olivia Welton (Orchard Park). 56 seconds later Dannielle O'Buckley (Jamaica/Ansbach) took a Hazleton turnover and chipped the ball high into the net to add an insurance goal.
The Pioneers held a 34 to 10 shot advantage in the contest. Madison Papaj (Holley) made three saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.
During the Pioneers seven game winning streak the team has recorded six shutouts and has outscored their opponents 31 to 1.
The blue & gold play their final home game of the season on Wednesday evening when they host Pitt-Bradford at 7 p.m.
