Mike Galton (Warsaw) led the Alfred State wrestlers at the NYS Championships held at Cornell University on Sunday. The Pioneers finished 20th out of 24 teams in the competition that featured wrestlers from all levels of the NCAA and NJCAA.
Galton finished in 8th place in the 157 lb. weight class. Galton earned a 11-5 win over Alex Corrao (Ithaca) in his opening match of the competition. After falling in the quarterfinal, he bounced back by pinning Michael McGowan (RIT) in 2:32. His day came to an end following a tight 7-6 loss to LIam Drury (NYU) in the consolation semifinals.
Nathan Elliott (Penn Yan) pinned Michael Marcy (Oneonta) in the 149 lb. weight class ad he finished 1-2 on the day.
The Pioneers are back on the mat in two weekends when they travel to Niagara CCC. They will compete in a pair of dual matches on Friday (11/30) and then in the Niagara Open on Saturday (12/1).
