The Alfred State men's basketball team won their 5th straight contest and improved to 8-1 since Thanksgiving with a 69-61 victory at SUNY ESF on Monday afternoon.

The Pioneers and the Mighty Oaks were tied at 26-26 at the half and SUNY ESF led by six with five minutes left before Alfred State went on a 12 to 2 run to take control of the game en route to the victory.

Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) led the Pioneers with 19 points while Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) finished with 13. Tyler Elliott (Perry) chipped in eight while Robbie Adams (Jasper Troupsburg), Marcus Rhett (Middletown), and Owen Spencer (Perry) all had six.

Zachary Dormer led the ESF with 17 points while Henry Pflaumer and Cole Paradies both finished with 11.

The blue & gold are now 9-3 overall on the season. The nine victories ties the 2016-17 team for the most wins during the NCAA DIII era at Alfred State (2013-2018).

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to D'Youville for a 6 p.m. rematch with the Spartans. The Pioneers and Spartans played a double-OT thriller on the opening weekend of the season with D'Youville earning the 114-105 victory.
