The Alfred State Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has joined forces with numerous SUNY campuses to participate in the Yards for Yeardley campaign. The Yards for Yeardley event at Alfred State will be held on Friday, April 20th in the main quad of campus between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Students, faculty & staff, and community members are encouraged to join the event and complete laps (participants can run, walk, bike, etc.). Each lap of the course is approximately 680 yards and participants will be handed a card to track their laps. Each person that completes 3.5 laps of the course will win a prize. Tables will be set up at the following four locations (Side door of the Engineering Building, top of admissions steps nearest the library, corner of central dining hall near the student leadership center, and the EJ Brown parking lot) for participants to track their laps.
SUNY campuses across the state have organized campus Yards for Yeardley campaigns with the goal of reaching 50 million yards, or "Around the World for Yeardley" as a SUNY Community in the month of April. The circumference of the earth is approximately 50 million yards, and SUNY plans to go around the world for Yeardley, bringing the community together and sparking conversations that can save lives along the way.
Founded in 2010 to honor the memory of Yeardley Love, the One Love Foundation's mission is to end relationship abuse by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors and empowering them to be leaders driving change in their communities. Each campaign will have an educational component and participants will learn about healthy and unhealthy relationships and local resources. Together, our campus communities and the SUNY community will rally to end relationship abuse, and ultimately save lives.
